Day 27
Day 27 welcomes in the Holiday Season with a spotlight on Light Up Leith : a real life advent calendar, with windows decorated throughout December for the community to find and explore!
Local Leith Resident, Hannah Ormston, has pulled together this community project for the month of December in Leith.
It all began with a simple call out on Facebook in November:
Leithers, I need your help.
2020 has been a difficult year for lots of people in Leith & beyond. So in December, we’re planning to Light Up Leith by decorating our windows and creating a ‘Leith advent calendar.
Since the original post this project has grown to include over 100 Leith residents, businesses, and schools!
And there is still time to get involved.
How it works:
If you’d like to take part, email LeithLightUp@gmail.com with your street address. There is no cut off for entry at this point. The more the merrier!
You’ll then be given a number between 1st & 25th December.
On that day in December, you decorate your window and ‘turn on your light’ displaying for everyone to see (and showing your advent number for example 1 on 1st December). You then leave your window display for the rest of the month.
As the month goes on, more flats in Leith light up their windows, creating a trail of houses/flats for residents to see and explore from the streets.
A map with street locations of participating windows for kids & families to follow and explore is now active - take a look inside and start your winter night adventures!
Additionally, Ostara Cafe (52 Coburg Street) have kindly offered to be a drop off/collection point for materials throughout the month. This way getting involved doesn’t need to cost money - just pick up supplies at the allocated spot in the café, and you can also drop off decorations for others to use.
