Phoenix Choir Leith Christmas Carols
The Phoenix Choir Leith first came to life in September 2015, where we started with a small group in Leith Community Centre in the Kirkgate. Our aim is to get as many people singing, enjoying music, and meeting new people as possible!
We sing up-beat music each week – all the harmonies are taught by ear so you don’t have to read music. We’re open to anyone who wants to join, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy the up-lifting energy of our rehearsals! We’ve had many people from different backgrounds and nationalities in the group and make the choir as accessible as possible – we’ve even been able to get lyrics printed in braille for our members with visual impairments! The music we sing is usually contemporary pop / soul / rock / folk – songs which pack a punch, and we also take song suggestions for the choir members too.

Whilst we love to keep the energy up and have fun in our rehearsals, we work hard too! We usually perform a few times a year – including a large Christmas Concert in St Giles (last December we got to play there TWICE!) as well as performances in Central Hall, Leith Theatre, Edinburgh City Chambers, The Pitt, and the Edinburgh Christmas Light Switch-On. It's not just the performing that we enjoy, but working on something that we make together and can be proud of. We’ve missed having our live concerts this year, but have created some “virtual” choir performances during the initial lockdown, and some new recordings for Christmas.
The pandemic put an immediate stop to rehearsals in person – but we went straight online to carry on singing! It’s not the same as singing in person, but the online rehearsals were a great way to stay feeling connected, and have a good sing each week. We’re looking forwards to the near year, when we’ll be able to get back together again and invite new members to come and join us!
