We have teamed up with At the Market to take over ten, yes TEN!!! market stalls on the 18th September! Pop by the market to find out about the work of some of our fabulous Leith community groups and organisations, how to get involved in Civic Life, and Keep yourself and others safe.
Leith for Ever: Find out about Leith for Ever, the 100 Days of Leith Project, and our plans for the future, plus get a sneak peak at some of the books featured in the online exhibition, Pick up a Heritage trail map, and Speak to some of the authors from the forthcoming Leith Anthology!
Leith Festival: Find out more about Leith Festival, chat to some of the festival volunteers and maybe pick up some Leith Festival Merchandise – tote bags, tshirts, postcards and possibly keyrings. Leith Festival Contributed to Days 11 and 41 of 100 Days.
Invisible Cities: Speak to the Invisible Cities team and find out more about the fabulous work they do for the local community and people affected by homelessness. Plus pick up a free trail pack about past Women of Leith for children to follow in their footsteps around the area. Invisible Cities Tour Guide Paul Stewart contributed to Days 48 and 61 of 100 Days.
Citadel Arts Group: Citadel Arts Group are well known for their fantastic plays, and work capturing memories of Leith. Come and speak to some of the members, see props from past performances, and maybe pick up a book or DVD. Citadel Arts Group contributed to Days 7 and 15 of 100 Days.
Boy’s Brigade: Come and find out more about the past and present of the Boy’s Brigade in Leith. Presenting a mixture of archive material about their history and information on how to join or get involved. The Boy’s Brigade featured as Day 74 of 100 Days.
(To be Confirmed) Trams to Newhaven: Find out more about the excavations undertaken as part of the tramworks, see some of the archaeological finds and speak to the team about the ongoing progress. Plus some activities for children big and small. Trams in Leith featured as Day 16 of 100 Days, and one of the finds uncovered featured as Day 55 of 100 Days.
Empty Kitchens Full Hearts: A relatively new charity, begun to fill a need during lockdown, and has highlighted a much wider issue of food poverty than was previously recognised. Drop by their stall to find out more about how they are helping people not just in Leith, but across the City. Empty Kitchens Full Hearts featured as Day 19 of 100 Days.
Leith Central, Leith Harbour and Newhaven and Leith Links Community Councils: When it is said community consultation took place on planning applications, developments, and council changes to the local area, often our community councils are at the forefront responding on our behalf. Tackling screeds of paper work, keeping up to date with developers plans and council meetings, and raising issues with our local councillors, MSP’s and Community Police Officers. Come and speak to some our local Leith Community Councillors, find out more about what they do to make our communities better, and how you can support them and get involved in civic life beyond the ballot box and Jury duty. Ask them about Leith Chooses, and improving oor bit of the toon. Leith Central Community Council contributed Day 51 of 100 days of Leith.
Sikh Sanjog: Sikh Sanjog ran Punjabi Junction on Stead’s place for many years, and have provided a haven and community for the Sikh women of Leith and beyond. Come and chat to them about their work and how you might be able to get involved. Sikh Sanjog Featured as Day 36 of 100 Days.
Police Scotland: Our community police officers will be on hand to provide advice and guidance on crime prevention and personal safety. The Leith Community Officers gave us a sneak peak into the old town hall and council chambers now part of Leith Police Station by contributing some of the photographs for Day 79 of 100 Days.
